We’ve all seen those iconic wedding shots from the 1990’s featuring puffed sleeves, awkward poses and forced smiles. If you, like us, want a wedding shoot that feels exactly opposite, you’ll want to hire a fine art film photographer! At Peony Photography, we use minimal but professional equipment to capture the moments from your day without all the extra fuss. You’re photos can feel just as vivid and real as you remember them, and you won’t find hundreds of shots that looks staged! Fine art is just a fancy word for editorial, romantic, and documentary style photography all in one!
Journalists work to capture the moment as our eyes see it. They strive to present the truth in their photography, which is great when you’re reporting on an exciting or newsworthy event. However, when a couple is getting married, they want to add creative vision to filter the images from the day. They’re looking for beauty and artistic composition, and the fine art photographer is, too! The goal of a fine art photographer is to make an image that anyone will see as gorgeous; not just the wedding party or guests. You don’t have to know the wedding couple in order to appreciate the stunning beauty of our wedding photos!
In addition to digital photography, we use film for many reasons and we love both equally! Film photography allows the photographer to play with colors, contrast, motion blur, and grain in a way that’s completely unlike digital photography. There’s so much room for creative expression! Think of film photography more like the work of a painter; there’s a tactile element involved. Digital photography will also typically be used through the event, as well, but the editing will be done in a way that allows the digitals to match the style of the film. When we do our job, you won’t be able to tell the difference! Throughout our Peony Photography gallery, you’ll see film and digital images used interchangeably.
We’re artists, first and foremost. And as artists we are looking for balance and composition as well as color and light. We are also looking to capture the authentic personalities of you and your guests. Fine art photography means approaching each wedding with a documentary style and preserving people and their expressions exactly as they’re happening. We don’t rely solely on poses because we want as many candid shots as possible.
You’ll only have this one day to be married to your special someone. The cake will be eaten; the dress will be put away, but the pictures are the part of your memory that you’re able to proudly display! Anyone can use a camera to take pictures, but it takes a special set of skills to craft images that double as art. It’s critical to make sure the person in charge of your pictures is able to do just that!
As my husband and I have photographed weddings over the years, we’ve captured some gorgeous shots of landscapes and architecture that we love to share. We even have fine art prints available for purchase. Let’s talk with you about your wedding, elopement, or engagement, and learn about your dreams for the photography. Contact us for a consultation!
