Late Winter/early Spring is our absolute favorite time of year to photograph couples who want a garden engagement session! Florals are starting to bloom, trees are becoming fuller after they have shaken off the winter frost, and the grass isn’t too bright green yet. Most importantly, it’s not too hot outside! Petition to ban photoshoots in July amiright?!
We love searching for pops of color in a garden or trail that compliment the outfits we are photographing. We encourage our couples to dress comfortably for the weather presented during the time of year that we shoot. White, black, pastels, muted or deep jewel tones, and earthy colors are some of my favorites and I love texting ideas for outfits! Our couple here chose light tones for their first outfit to blend well with the bright white and blush camellias that were in bloom around them!
Outfit change!! We love these muted jewel tones! Perfect for that warm sunset shining through. It got chilly as the afternoon faded so we cuddled up close for these. We also love that Nick and Emily opted to dress up for both of their outfit choices! They really stand out!!
To explain further, we ended this session about 10 minutes past sunset time! 5 minutes more and you would have seen what photographers like to call “blue hour”. All of the bright yellow glow turns grey/blue and no longer has the same halo effect. The garden here was beautiful all afternoon! Another favorite picture location of mine is Lady Bird Wildflower Center in Austin, TX. It’s gorgeous year round!! We think this sun kissed finale was a perfect way to end Nick and Emily’s afternoon together. We hope you love this garden engagement session as much as we do!
